The Steam Deck has opened up a lot of possibilities when it comes to what you can do with a PC handheld. While we did have other PC handhelds before the Deck, none were able to gather a wider and more loyal following due to major factors like price and reach. In 2022, the Steam Deck changed all that. Since its launch, the Deck has seen a lot of games but that’s not the end of it. Even apps for all kinds and purposes have become popular with Steam Deck users. And among these apps is also WeMod.

For the uninitiated, WeMod is a modding and trainer app for single-player games and is used by a ton of players. In fact, WeMod states that it supports over 2500+ single-player games and this is a list that’s only going to increase in numbers. So, it’s only evident that Steam Deck users would also want to use it. So, without much further ado, here’s everything you need to know about how you can install the WeMod app on your Steam Deck.

How to install WeMod on Steam Deck (2024)

While this is a somewhat complicated task, by the end of this guide, you will have successfully installed WeMod on your Deck. So, follow the instructions below carefully, and don’t skip any.

• First of all, you need to switch to Desktop Mode and then open the Discover Store on your Deck.
• Next, type in Proton on the search bar and download these two:ProtonUp-QtandProtontricks.
• Once both are installed properly, launch ProtonUp-Qt and make sure that theInstall for:option is selected for Steam.
• Next, click onAdd version, and set theCompatibility tooltoGE-ProtonandVersiontoGE-Proton 6.19 GE-2. Now, click onInstall.
• After the installation is complete, restart Steam.
• Now, in Desktop Mode, open your browser and download theWeMod exeand.NET Framework.
• Next, open Steam and click onAdd a Game>Add a Non-Steam Game. SelectBrowseand then add the WeMod exe.
• Following that, select WeMod from the Steam Library, and click on the cogwheel icon to selectProperties>Compatibility.
• Now, checkmark the “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool” option and change the Proton version to the one we mentioned before, i.e., 6.19 GE-2. Close settings and run WeMod.
• Next, open File Manager, and click on the three lines located next to the search icon. Check the Show Hidden Filesoption.
• After that, head to this path: .steam > steam > steamapps > compatdata.
• What you need to do now is click on Modified and select the folder that was created recently. Inside, you will find five files: pfx,version,tracked_files,config_info, andpfx.lock.
• Openpfx > drive_C > users > steamuser > AppData > Local > WeMod. Now, copy the path and open WeMod’s Properties in Steam. In the Shortcut section, change the name to simplyWeMod. Click on the Browsebutton underTargetand then paste the previously copied path into the current file path. Next, click on the tick icon and then select WeMod.exe.
• Now, add a quotation mark for the file path entered underTarget. Copy-paste the previous path once again in the Start In text bar without quotation marks.
• You can now switch to the Compatibility section and change the Proton version to Experimental.
• Now, open Protontricks, double-click WeMod, and wait for it to launch.
• When it finally opens, click on Select the defaultwineprefix. Next, chooseRun winecfgand click OK.
• After Wineconfig opens, selectWindows 7 for the Windows version. Next, click on ApplyandOK.
• Back to Protontricks, selectRun uninstaller. When the program launches, select theInstallbutton. Now browse and add the .NET framework. After the installation is complete, close Protontricks and launch WeMod from Steam.
• Since this will be your first time using WeMod, you will need to create an account. So do that.
• Once you have created your account, you will be able to go ahead and enjoy WeMod on your Steam Deck.

To use WeMod with games, first select an installed game of your choice. Then, click on Install Game> Add Custom. Now browse your file manager and add the exe of your chosen game. Next, click on Play to launch the game. If the game is supported by WeMod, you will see the Play button turn to Playing. Furthermore, to use cheats and such, just toggle on whichever one you would like to use.
